Road Condition

A further update to advise that the gravel section of the Kennedy Development Road, between the Lynd Junction and the Shire boundary, towards Hughenden is limited to 4WD high clearance vehicles only, with a 5-tonne load limit applicable. All other vehicles are not permitted on this road due to boggy and saturated pavement, which is currently unstable due to the high-water table and springs.

The bitumen sections are open to all vehicles, up to the start of the gravel section, which is closed.

Council is awaiting advice from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) regarding further works to re-open this section of road.

Council is advised that no further works are proposed until the pavement dries out and machinery is able operate.

Residents are advised to seek an alternative route for any heavy freight or stock movements. Further road condition updates will be provided when they are available or if circumstances change.

Please monitor Road Condition Reports, which are available on Facebook.

Council apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and unfortunately the prevailing wet conditions are out of Council’s control.

Federal Funding

A recent funding announcement of $70 million was made for the Kennedy Development Road, involving the unsealed section of road and to upgrade low level creek and river crossings.

Whilst the official announcement is welcomed, an approval process to allocate the funding is still required before works can proceed.

Council will be involved in proposed works, which will likely commence in the dry season of 2026.
